TSIRIBIHINA RIVER TRIP !
Join us in an adventurous river trip on Tsiribihina River. You will enjoy the large landscape and meet locals through village’s visit, biodiversity. There is two possibilities to do this river trip, by traditional dugout wooden canoe and the motor boat, called chaland. The first one is more adventurous. And the second one is more space, with a shallow when it is hot. You could move when you are tired. After that, you will hike through the Tsingy of Bemaraha, see the majestically sunset at the avenue of Baobabs, and find the famous indri in Andasibe National Park.

You will be accommodated at Green Park Hotel, Rasalimo Hotel, Camping, Trecycogne Hotel, Orchidée du Bemaraha Hotel, Kirindy Eco Lodge, Mikalo Hotel, and Rova Hotel. All accommodations feature a local network and Wi-Fi except Rasalimo Hotel which does not have a Wi-Fi and Kirindy Eco Lodge which does not have a local network and Wi-Fi.
Day 1: ANTANANARIVO - ANTSIRABE (170 kilometers, 4 hours’ drive)
Welcome to the international airport. There will be guide’s presentation, then transfer directly to Antsirabe. You will have first view on highland’s landscape with its traditional red clay house, and rice paddies. You will spend your night at Green Park Hotel.
Day 2: ANTSIRABE - MIANDRIVAZO (220 kilometers, 5 hours’ drive)
Antsirabe is the capital of rickshaw in Madagascar, where the number of this locomotion is quite equal to the number of the population. You will continue the tours on rickshaw for visit of the Antsirabe’s monuments. You will visit handicrafts showroom : Miniature, Zebu horn. Then, off to Miandrivazo which litteraly means « the king wait for the queen ». Watching different landscapes through Bongolava mountains… You will spend your night at Rasalimo hotel.
Day 3: MIANDRIVAZO – TSIRIBIHINA RIVER TRIP (camping)
After check-in in the Police, for a security issue, off to Masiakampy : 40 kms from Miandrivazo, where you take the boarding point on the river. Tsiribihina river trip is 100 kms, doing in two and half days. First day is birdwatching and lemur watching, observe faunas and floras, for examples chamaleons,… You will spend your night under tent to the sandy banks.
Day 4: TSIRIBIHINA RIVER TRIP (camping)
Today is still still birdwatching, and visit of villages… And by chance, spotting crocodiles along the river. You will spend your night under tent to the sandy banks.
Day 5 : TSIRIBIHINA RIVER TRIP – BELO – BEKOPAKA (110 kms : 4 hours’ drive)
Last day at Tsiribihina river. After getting off to the boat or pirogue, we join the 4WD to get to Bekopaka. There is the famous Belo’s ferryboat on Tsiribihina river for around 45 minutes. Then, continue on sandy road to the north, crossing savanna and vegetation forest : grass and dry savanna… A second ferryboat at the gateway of Bekopaka for 5 minutes. You will spend your night at Orchidée du Bemaraha Hotel.
Day 6: TSINGY OF BEMARAHA NATIONAL PARK
This is one whole day to visit Big and small Tsingy National Park. After breakfast, you will be taking the road, 17 kilometers in north of village by car, for Big Tsingy of Bemaraha visit. After visit, you come back to the village, and have lunch. The afternoon, you will go to visit the Small Tsingy. You will spend your night at Orchidée du Bemaraha Hotel.
Day 7: BEKOPAKA - KIRINDY (135 kilometers, 6 hours’ drive)
You will go to Kirindy by crossing the ferryboat. You will make a stop in Belo Tsiribihina for lunch. After lunch, continue the drive until Kirindy. At night, you will take a night walk to spot nocturnal lemurs, chameleons, jumping rat, etc. You will spend your night at Kirindy EcoLodge.
Day 8: KIRINDY - AVENUE OF BAOBABS - MORONDAVA (65 kilometers, 3 hours’ driving)
In the morning, you will walk at Kirindy reserve. Kirindy is the only place, if you are lucky, you could see in wild the Fossa which is the biggest carnivore in Madagascar. It is the predator of lemurs. Then after visit, you will continue the drive and admire the sunset at the Avenue of Baobabs. You will spend your night at Trecycogne Hotel.
Day 9: MORONDAVA - ANTANANARIVO (domestic flight)
Now, you will fly back to Tanà or the capital. Depending of the flight, but possibility of City Tours in Morondava before departure. You will spend your night at Rova Hotel.
Day 10: ANTANANARIVO – ANDASIBE
After the morning breakfast, you will take direction to the « haute ville » to see the view of Antananarivo, the capital and visit the Queen Palace. Then, you will head to the middle east in Andasibe. On the way, you will visit one of the practical insect and reptiles reserve at Peyrieras in Marozevo. The centre provides opportunities for close viewing of several species chameleons existing in Madagascar, and other faunas like geckos, reptiles that are habituated. This is an option but you can skip it if you are not keen on it. When arriving in Andasibe, after installation at the hotel, you will take a night walk to see nocturnal chameleons and lemurs. You will spend your night at Mikalo Hotel.
Day 11: ANDASIBE NATIONAL PARK
Andasibe hosts 11 species of lemurs and also the biggest lemur, the Indri Indri. It can be easily spotted because of its impressive shrieks. It cannot bear in captivity so it can be admired only in its natural milieu. After the visits, you will drive back to the hotel and have a lunch. In the afternoon you will explore lemur’s island or known as Vakona reserve to see lemurs and chameleons closely. Then, you will go back to the hotel. You will spend your night at Mikalo Hotel.
Day 12: ANDASIBE – ANTANANARIVO – INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (136 kms : 3hours 30 minutes )
Now, we go back to the highland through the road N 34.
Transfer to the international airport.

Note: This trip is available from mid-April to mid-November. The conditions will permit you to visit all parts of the island as it is accessible. The most raining is in January, February, and March. Some sites are inaccessible due to rain, especially the Tsingy of Bemaraha.
The included food for this trip is continental breakfast when we are staying in hotels, and all meals included during the river trip.
